Alexander High School Class Graduation Pictures.( The Cap and Gown)
What's it all about. The Graduation is the immenient Plateau of all the hard work of the early formal education. To graduate from Alexander High School was an honor and a priviledge. Under the cap and gown; stood students who weathered adversities and garnished the leadership provided by an unselfish faculty. The lessons and the memories of the faculty would remain in their brains and spirits forever and a day.
Graduation is one of the most honored experience of a lifetime. Just as conceding as the Gettysburg Address given by a president that wanted to free a people. Graduation gave the freedom of making life choices easier. It has been said that the last memory to leave an alzheimer patient is their graduation day. I don't know if this is true or not; but I know graduation day is engraved in memory.
To graduate from Alexander High School was not only sacred to its's student but envied by students in the surrounding districts. Graduation cannot last a lifetime; but graduation is the lifetime of that moment.
Through it all; history records nearly 1700 students graduated from Alexander. Still many that did not graduate was not considered a failure because the teaching to those that quit or for *whatever reason did not graduate were also given life skills. Let the record reflect that the drop-out rate at Alexander was as minimal as any in the state. Alexander salutes all the graduates and the many educational moments and the studious representation they give.
Alexander is one of the few pre-integration schools that still displays graduation class pictures (both pre and post civil rights era) of segregated black students. These photos are still on display at the now Alexander Jr.High School in Brookhaven Mississippi. The Graduating Class of 1970 is the Last Photo to adorn the walls. They were the Last Class to take a group picture as Alexander High School. They were also the largest graduating class in the school's history.
